Things to bring

This list is not exhaustive. You may not want to bring everything on it either.
  • Important documents - passport, driving licence, national insurance card, any info from the University or Student Finance, immigration info if you are an international student.
  • Money - student loans aren't paid until the first day of term (30th September)
  • Towels and bed stuff (pillows, quilt/duvet, sheets for those items and one for the mattress too). Or buy a bed pack.
  • Stationary - lined paper, arch folders, pens, pencils, highlighters, white/blu tac, scissors, sello tape, hole puncher, stapler, post-it notes, pins for notice boards, ruler, calculator, envelopes and stamps.
  • Electrical stuff - extension cord, any relevant converters, iron, computer/laptop and charger, mobile phone and charger, camera, TV, relevant batteries, USB stick, headphones, speakers, hair dryer/straightener etc.
  • Your clothes - to suit different occasions.
  • Medication that you may need.
  • Other things - clothes hangers, posters, umbrella, torch, bag, door wedge, 
Kitchen/communal items
First of all - check the inventory for the hall itself - found on this page.
Second - you'll want to decide some of these things with your flatmates. You'll likely want one of each of the appliances, but may want your own pots and things.
  • Appliances - kettle, toaster, iron
  • Cookbook.
  • Pots, pans, mugs, glasses, plates, kitchen knives and cutlery, grater, masher, peeler, colander, sieve, tin opener, bottle opener, baking tray etc.
  • First Aid Kit.
  • Cleaning goods - washing up stuff (liquids, scrubs), tea towels, washing powder and fabric softener.
Things you might think to bring, but don't need to
Ironing board and bins are usually provided - check inventory.
Printer (ink is expensive, you'll be pestered by flatmates, and on campus it's 4p per sheet with dedicated printing computers in the library).
Don't bring a mini fridge.
